The MPC823 microprocessor is a versatile, one-chip integrated microprocessor and peripheral combination that can be used in a variety of electronic products. It particularly excels in low-power, portable, image capture and personal communication products. It has a universal serial bus (USB) interface and video display controller, as well as the existing LCD controller of the MPC821 device.
The MPC823 microprocessor integrates a high-performance embedded MPC8xx core with a communication processor module that uses a specialized RISC processor for imaging and communication. The communication processor module can perform embedded signal processing functions for image compression and decompression. It also supports seven serial channels--two serial communication controllers, two serial management controllers, one I2C port, one USB channel, and one serial peripheral interface.
This two-processor architecture consumes power more efficiently than traditional architectures because the communication processor module frees the core from peripheral tasks like imaging and communication.

The MPC8240 Integrated Host Processor fits applications where cost, space, power consumption and performance are critical requirements. This device provides a high level of integration, reducing chip count from five discrete chips to one, thereby significantly reducing system component cost. High integration results in a simplified board design, less power consumption and faster time-to-market solution. This cost-effective, general-purpose integrated processor targets systems using PCI interfaces in networking infrastructure, telecommunications, and other embedded markets. It can be used for control processing in applications such as routers, switches, network storage applications and image display systems.
Processor Core
The MPC8240 Integrated Host Processor takes advantage of a small, yet powerful 32-bit, superscalar MPC603e processor core. The processor core provides floating-point support, memory management, 16-Kbyte instruction and data caches and power management features with five independent execution units. This full-featured high-performance processor core is software-compatible with microprocessors based on Power Architecture.
The MPC8308 processor is optimized for low-cost and low-power providing a highly-integrated PowerQUICC II Pro processor that addresses requirements of networking applications such as smart grid home energy gateways, data concentrators, wireless LAN access points, wireless femto base stations, consumer printing and industrial applications such as industrial control and factory automation. MPC8308 processor extends the PowerQUICC II Pro family adding higher CPU performance and high-speed peripherals with low power consumption at a very aggressive cost.
For networking applications, the gigabit Ethernet MACs support connectivity to the wired network while the PCI Express and SDIO interfaces offer connectivity to wireless LAN or 3G and 4G modem devices. The MPC8308 features integrated IEEE 1588 version 2 time synchronization offering extremely precise clock synchronization for applications such as time-sensitive telecommunications services, industrial network switches, powerline networks and test/measurement devices.The MPC8536E PowerQUICC® III is designed to deliver gigahertz-class complex application processing performance with exceptional feature integration and high-speed connectivity for IP network and advanced media processing applications. It combines a robust e500 processor core, with enhanced peripherals and interconnect technology, to balance processor performance with I/O system throughput. The MPC8536E processor includes advanced energy management features that will help enable next-generation embedded Internet media processing applications with energy efficiency levels under the environmental and governmental energy regulatory requirements.
Energy Management Advantage
The MPC8536E processor implements sophisticated power-saving modes for managing energy consumption in both dynamic and static power modes. Designers will be able to leverage these modes to efficiently match work accomplished with the correct level of energy consumed.
